Her current role consists of identifying gaps and implementing standard processes to acquire, transfer, dispose and manage software. Together with her team these processes have produced a cost avoidance exceeding $135M. She accomplishes this by building bridges to key stakeholders and partnering with them to close gaps in software processes. Karen shepherds a software 101 education program to teach the basics of software licensing. She believes educating one’s stakeholders is key to establishing a solid SAM program. Karen participates in the development and publication of ITAM policies, standards, and procedures. She provides guidance, mentorship, and leadership to her team of seven direct reports.
Her career started as a developer until she got a taste of IT infrastructure during one of her software projects. From then on, she spent the majority of her career running IT infrastructure projects in the manufacturing space. An opportunity was presented to leave her technical career to develop a Software Asset Management program for the manufacturing company. She accepted the challenge even though she knew she was leaving behind a much loved career path. With a quick taste of Software Asset Management Karen knew she made the right decision. This switch allows her to marry her technical knowledge with software contracts and process management. It was a perfect combo that never made Karen look back. She has enjoyed many years of Software Asset Management responsibilities as there is always something new and interesting to challenge her.
Karen earned a BS in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, a MS in Information Science concentrating in Telecommunications from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Duquesne University.
